Wayne Madsen has been rewarded for his services to Derbyshire County Cricket Club with a Testimonial Year in 2017.
Madsen currently sits as the county’s sixth-highest century-maker in first-class history and, over the course of the past seven years, has earned himself a place on Derbyshire’s honours board.
In 2012, Madsen led Derbyshire to the County Championship Division Two title in his first season as Club Captain, before giving up his captaincy duties in 2016, to allow him to focus on delivering match winning batting performances and providing leadership as a senior player to the younger players in the squad.
In total, the 32-year-old has amassed over 11,000 runs in all formats for Derbyshire, with that number set to rise after he committed his future to the Club until the end of 2019, by which time he will have represented the county for 11 years.
Madsen is currently enjoying what looks set to be his most prosperous run-scoring season to date, needing just another 22 runs to achieve 1,000 first-class runs for the fourth consecutive season, whilst an additional 262 runs would see him surpass his previous highest season total, which came in Division One in 2013.
Chairman Chris Grant said: “In recent years, Wayne Madsen has become a stalwart around which the team has been built and it is fitting that his contributions to the Club will be rewarded with a Testimonial Year.
“Wayne’s achievements on the field are clear for all to see, whilst his impact at the Club through his interactions with Members, supporters, staff and local children has been invaluable and he continues to be a fantastic ambassador for Derbyshire.
“We are all looking forward to celebrating Wayne’s Testimonial Year in 2017 and we encourage everyone to get behind him.”
Madsen said: “I feel humbled and privileged to have been awarded a Testimonial Year and would like to thank the Club for the opportunity.
“On the field, I have enjoyed and shared so many special memories with great teammates. Playing for Derbyshire is a huge honour and I look forward to contributing to the Club’s success for many years to come.
“I have loved being part of the Derbyshire family and having the chance to share time with so many great people over the last eight years – supporters, sponsors, staff and players. I hope we can make next year one where we can have fun together off the field and enjoy success together on it.
“I’m extremely excited about next year, and look forward to making 2017 a successful and memorable year both on and off the field.”
